EXERCISE CLASSES

 

 IRON YOGA
Everything you want in a workout! This is an hour long class of flowing athletic yoga postures to improve flexibility, balance and fluidity of movement.  The class is interspersed with weight training to boost your body's fat-burning capacity by speeding up your metabolism. Then we end the class with an abdominal workout emphasizing core and back stabilization.  Please bring your own hand weights and yoga mat,( the center has all-purpose mats but for better performance a yoga mat is preferred.)  Please be mindful that this is an intermediate class however modifications are offered. Everyone is welcome to get in the best shape ever!

DANCE AEROBICS
What if you could exercise to salsa music, classical themes and show tunes – and have FUN while toning up? Interested? Then this is the class for you!

MUSCLES AND MORE
Get toned, trim and increase flexibility while having fun with your friends. You'll use different strengths of resistant tubing to stretch and tone your abs, legs, hips and arms. Good for any fitness level!

PILATES/YOGA MIX
Strong abs and back! Long lean muscles! Excellent grace of movement! Control and concentration! Based on the mat work of Joseph Pilates, this class will build core strength and flexibility. Beginning and advanced classes offered.

SIT AND BE FIT
This is a weight-bearing exercise class that uses free weights, rubber tubing and other strength building equipment to focus on slow, controlled movement using proper form for maximum benefit and minimum risk of injury. Everyone works at their own level. Improves bone density, helps prevent osteoporosis, improves muscle strength and endurance and helps you look and feel better! It’s never too late to start exercising!

TAI CHI for Arthritis and Beginners

Although Tai Chi for Arthritis was developed to ease the symptoms of the condition it is beneficial to everyone as a general health program. Learn to improve flexibility, muscle strength and cardio-respiratory fitness, relieve stress, promote tranquility and improve balance and quality of life.

All that Jazz

This is a six-week adult workshop that explores a variety of jazz styles and choreography including Broadway, Lyrical, Latin and Afro-Caribbean. Perfect for beginners!

Bare Bones Ballet

This is a basic ballet class designed to build strength and core balance in the beginner or more advanced dancer.

Ballroom Dance    

This is an ideal exercise — less stress and more fun! Ballroom dancing provides a mild aerobic workout without the boring parts!

Jazz/Tap Dance

Equipping and Empowering the Warrior Within
Dokuritsu Martial Arts promotes core values, self-defense, self-discipline, self-confidence, citizenship and physical fitness in a fun and positive atmosphere. Classes are available for children and adults.

Pickleball

This is a fun and energetic sport for all ages! It’s a combination of Ping-Pong, tennis and badminton and has been enjoyed all over the country for more than 20 years. Pickleball is played by two or four people on a badminton-sized court using wooden paddles and a plastic, poly baseball.

EDUCATIONAL CLASSES


 

 Vino and Van Gogh – Wine, Paint, Create!

 

 

Come enjoy wine, share good company, and foster your inner artist! Vino & van Gogh is a class where students are taught how to paint a particular subject, by breaking the steps down into a simple process, in a fun and friendly environment. And, the best part is that, at the end of the session, you can take your “masterpiece” home! Class size: Minimum 5, Maximum 10. Space is limited so enroll NOW. Brings your friends!

WINE - Sip on a glass of wine to unwind and loosen up as you take a dip into the creative  process. Please bring your own wine to class. We will provide cups and openers.
PAINT - Our fabulous instructor will teach you how to paint with watercolor in a step by step format.  In one evening, you’ll learn how to control watercolor while enjoying its playful nature.
CREATE - We encourage you to “go with the flow” of watercolor and play with color mixing on the paper.

Dog Obedience Class – “Leash & Greet”
Have a new puppy who needs some "guidelines" or an older dog who needs some manners? This class is for dogs 3 months and older. Your dog will learn to: Respond to their name, to focus on the owner, to learn commands: Sit, Lay Down, Sit Stay, Down Stay, Wait at doors, to Greet people properly (jumping).  Bridge Lessons

The addictive game of bridge fascinates, challenges and entertains millions of players! Class starts with basics and works on improving skills, including: bidding conventions and techniques, strategies for playing a hand and rules of the game. MUST PRE-REGISTER! Limited space available!

Knitting Class

We will teach you to knit warm, comfortable and attractive clothing while calming the mind and soothing to the spirit. You will learn about needles, yarns and basic stitches—with lots of time to practice!

Spanish Workshops
This workshop will get your started on the Spanish language. The Spanish passion for living is contagious and once you start to learn their language and culture, you won’t ever want to stop!

Workshop #1 is “Greetings and Presentations” and will discuss identity, nouns and their gender, nouns and their numbers, definite articles, indefinite articles and colors.
Workshop #2 is “Describe Yourself” and will concentrate on affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences, adjectives to describe people physically and emotionally, agreement in gender and number between the noun and the adjective, the verb “to have” and parts of the face.
Workshop #3 is entitled “My Hobbies” and will explore indoor and outdoor activities, likes and dislikes, adverbs of quantity such as a lot or nothing, and negative sentences.
Time: Beginners Class meet on Wednesday from 1:00pm to 2:30pm on January 18th, 25th and February 1st.  
Time: Intermediate Class meets on Wednesday from 3:00pm to 4:30pm on January 18th, 25th and February 1st.

Tapas and Fun

This is a great way to experience tasty dishes while Fatima shares with you the music and culture of Spain. The menu is a TRADITIONAL SPANISH OMELET made with fresh eggs, potatoes and onions as well as GAZPACHO, a cool, refreshing, fresh tomato-based soup typical of southern Spain. Watercolor Class for Beginners

Prevention Plus conducts health screenings every month at the Community Center. Stroke/Carotid ultrasounds, Arterial Disease, Osteoporosis and Cholesterol testing are just a few of the health screenings available. Drop by the Center for a complete listing. Discounts are available for multiple tests.
