Anna Maria Island Community Center

Annual Report Message:

We have come to the end of another incredibly exceptional year of service and growth at the AMICC - testament of an abiding commitment to ensure that every youth, family, adult, and senior in our community has access to the basic resources, programs, and services upon which healthy, secure, productive and hopeful communities are built and sustained.

I am proud of our dedicated professionals who help our children, teens, families, adults and seniors realize their potential and achieve their dreams through a variety of programs that engage their interests and imaginations. Creative educational, family support, recreational, and cultural programs are the very heart of the Center’s mission to improve the quality of human life.

Growing up on the Island, I spent many hours of my youth at the Center and my life was positively influenced by the many volunteers who gave so generously of their time. Our corps of volunteers today has greatly increased, their contributions of time and talents has expanded beyond coaching. Today volunteers contribute on multiple levels as coaches, mentors, teachers, office volunteers, and fundraisers. Our program fees remain lower than similar agencies in the area to insure every member of our community has access to programs. Our special events were very successful allowing us to continue our policy of never turning a child away from any program because of the financial inability of their parents to pay the full program fee. When you consider that in our TLC after school program, 51% of the children are on partial or full scholarship, you realize how important the Anna Maria Island Community Center is to our community.

The need for additional space for our Island residents was made clearer than ever this past year. As the population and traffic grows in Manatee County, our Island residents want to be able to attend quality programs and services without having to leave the Island. Also, the continuing demands of our community for expanded and innovative programs have created a greater urgency in our efforts to build a 21st Century Community Learning Center. Since then the plans for renovating and expanding our existing building have been moving forward in a steady pace after the kick-off of the silent phase of the capital campaign in February 2004.

Throughout our history, the Center remains committed to providing residents of all ages the best programming and services possible. Every year offers us a chance to improve our programs and engage more youth, families, and seniors. On behalf of my colleagues on the Board of Directors, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped to make this happen.

Sincerely,
Kenneth A. Price
Chairman of the Board
