"Advancing cancer prevention and survival through nutrition education and research"
A little bit about the class… People following plant-based diets tend to have strikingly
low breast cancer rates. In rural Asia and Africa, for example, traditional diets are based on rice
or other grains, starchy vegetables, fruits, and beans, and people eating these diets generally avoid
the disease. When it does strike, they also seem to have better survival. There are two important
dietary factors that play a role: Fatty foods boost the hormones that promote cancer by causing a
woman’s body to make more estrogen, and fiber in the diet helps the body rid itself of toxins,
waste hormones, excess cholesterol, chemicals, and other undesirables. In this class, you will
see and taste delicious low-fat, high-fiber dishes made from whole grains, legumes, vegetables
and fruit in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The class maximum is 30 so please register EARLY to reserve your spot. Class meets on Fridays from
11:30am to 1:00pm. It is FREE and includes lunch. For further information, call Sandee at 778-1908.
